When Your Child Wets The Bed

You finally have your child potty trained during the day, but what happens when your little boy or girl wets the bed at night?  Since a child doesn't know what they are doing at night time, they cannot stop themselves from wetting the bed.

When you child wets the bed it just takes time!  There are a few products you can use to keep the bed dry when you child wets the bed though.

If your child is willing to wear training pants, have them wear them at night.

If your child is like mine, she does not want to wear training pants.  She wants to wear underwear at night.  But then she wets the bed and I end up cleaning all the sheets on her bed each day.  Instead, I found a product that I can use to keep her bed dry at night.  I place this directly under her to keep her sheets dry through the night.  The mat has an adhesive on the bottom that keeps it in place while your child tosses and turns at night.  The adhesive does not come off on the sheets when you take it off in the morning.  The mats are large enough to cover the areas that you need to have covered.  I don't have to clean her sheets everyday anymore!  For this reason alone, the GoodNites bed mats are worth every penny!

Child Pees In Bed

My 3 year old daughter has been potty-trained for the daytime, but still pees in bed.  We have her wear a diaper or pull-up when she goes to bed to make sure she doesn't wet the bed.  Normally we just use diapers at night since they are cheaper and she doesn't wake up at night to go to the bathroom.  There is no need for us to pay more for the ease of pulling the pull-ups up or down since it doesn't happen at night time.

Last week, we decided to try having our daughter wear her big girl undies to bed to see if she would stay dry.  When we woke up, her and her bed were wet.  I needed to wash everything!  We tried again the next night and the same thing happened.  My daughter was very excited about wearing her big girl undies to bed, but we had to put the diapers back on at night time.  Washing all the sheets on her bed everyday was getting to be too much.

Two things that I do recommend having when night training are a mattress protector and Tide Pods.  Mattress protectors do not cost much and keep the mattress from getting wet, which will help you save money over time.

Tide Pods are convenient and work and smell great!  Tide detergent pod get rid of the urine smell and clean and brighten very well!

Night-time Potty Training

My 4 year old son is fully potty-trained.  We are now working on my 3 year old daughters potty-training.  She began the 3 year old class at preschool in the fall.  She needed to be potty-trained to be in there.  We started sending her to school in her big girl undies with an extra change of clothes, just in case.  There were a few accidents, but little by little they became fewer and far between.  I think that being in the  3 year old class helped with potty-training because they had regular bathroom breaks and she saw other kids her age going potty on the toilet.

We are now halfway through summer and she is wearing her big girl undies all day long.  We still put a diaper or pull-ups on her at night time.  I prefer the diaper because it costs less than a pull-up and she does not get out of her bed to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, so there is no need for her to learn how to pull them up and down like big undies.  She gets enough practice during the day. Most mornings she wakes up with a  dry diaper.

She may be ready to wear underwear overnight, but I don't know if I am ready for that.  We do have a waterproof mattress protector on her mattress, so that helps.  I think I will wait a few more months for her to wear undies at nighttime.  Plus, I need to use up all the diapers that we still have.  Most likely, we will switch her to big girl undies once we are done with our Costco-sized box of diapers.

Potty training success

My 4 1/2 year old son was day-time potty-trained by the time he began preschool (a little before he turned 4 years old.  A few months after he started preschool, we noticed that his pull-ups were dry every morning, so we switched him to underwear at night time too.  Finally!!!  One child down and one to go!  My daughter just turned 3 years old yesterday.  She is mostly day-time potty-trained.  She wears her big girl underwear every day and only has an accident every couple of days.  Usually, she has the most accidents before bed.  I think it is because she is tired and she just doesn't feel like getting up to go to the potty.  She will be starting preschool in the 3 year old class in the fall and she will need to by potty-trained  by then.  At least day-time potty-trained.  I think that getting her into preschool this year really helped since she sees most of the other kids doing it and she wants to be a big girl too.  One thing that really helped us on our potty-training journey was to have our children pick out their big kid undies The were so excited to pick them out and the really wanted to keep them dry so they don't ruin them.  We have the summer to get our daughter potty-trained.  I think we should be OK.
