When Boys Learn To Pee In The Potty

I have a 5 year old potty-trained son and I have found that I have to clean this one area more often than ever before.  The back of the base of the toilet gets very messy and needs to be cleaned every couple days.

Young boys get distracted very easily.  They may be aiming at the toilet one second and the next second something catches their eye.  If you have a young boy who is potty trained, make sure you check around the base of the toilet (especially around the back) for any mishaps!

Kids Peeing In The Bushes

Now that my kids (3 & 5 years old) have figured out how to go potty on the toilet, they are also finding out about other fun places to go potty.  As embarrassing as it is, at least they are not having accidents.  Instead, they are turning heads at the park or playground when they decide that they have to go this instant.

Maybe I shouldn't have had them go by a bush when we were walking in the forest alone because now they think it is OK to do it amongst crowds at the playground!  The joys of parenthood!

I would love to hear others stories.  Where is the craziest place your child has gone potty?

Best Tip For Potty Training Your Child

About a month or so ago, my three year old daughter decided that diapers were uncomfortable and that they were for babies and that she is NOT a baby.  She wants to be a big girl and wants nothing to do with diapers anymore, not even Pull-ups!  She just made the decision one day out of the blue and has stuck to her decision since then.  I am so proud of her for finally doing it!

My daughter began potty-training when she was one year old.  She saw her big brother potty-training and she wanted to do it too.

She still has an accident at nighttime while she is sleeping, but they are getting fewer and far between.  Now I just have to figure out what to do with all these diapers that I still have!

The best tip I have for any parent who is potty-training their child is to not rush it.  Take it one day at a time.  Have fun with it!  Your son or daughter will figure it out sooner or later.  (You don't see many middle-schoolers walking around in diapers!).  By not rushing it, you and your child will be under a lot less stress and who knows, maybe your child will potty-train quicker without the stress.

We used the Baby Bjorn toilet trainer seat and stool.  It makes the toilet seat smaller so your child doesn't fall through and their pee and poo goes directly into the toilet.  It's so much cleaner and easier than the floor models of potties.  It also comes in tons of nice colors that will go with your bathroom.

When Your Child Wets The Bed

You finally have your child potty trained during the day, but what happens when your little boy or girl wets the bed at night?  Since a child doesn't know what they are doing at night time, they cannot stop themselves from wetting the bed.

When you child wets the bed it just takes time!  There are a few products you can use to keep the bed dry when you child wets the bed though.

If your child is willing to wear training pants, have them wear them at night.

If your child is like mine, she does not want to wear training pants.  She wants to wear underwear at night.  But then she wets the bed and I end up cleaning all the sheets on her bed each day.  Instead, I found a product that I can use to keep her bed dry at night.  I place this directly under her to keep her sheets dry through the night.  The mat has an adhesive on the bottom that keeps it in place while your child tosses and turns at night.  The adhesive does not come off on the sheets when you take it off in the morning.  The mats are large enough to cover the areas that you need to have covered.  I don't have to clean her sheets everyday anymore!  For this reason alone, the GoodNites bed mats are worth every penny!
