Child Pees In Bed

My 3 year old daughter has been potty-trained for the daytime, but still pees in bed.  We have her wear a diaper or pull-up when she goes to bed to make sure she doesn't wet the bed.  Normally we just use diapers at night since they are cheaper and she doesn't wake up at night to go to the bathroom.  There is no need for us to pay more for the ease of pulling the pull-ups up or down since it doesn't happen at night time.

Last week, we decided to try having our daughter wear her big girl undies to bed to see if she would stay dry.  When we woke up, her and her bed were wet.  I needed to wash everything!  We tried again the next night and the same thing happened.  My daughter was very excited about wearing her big girl undies to bed, but we had to put the diapers back on at night time.  Washing all the sheets on her bed everyday was getting to be too much.

Two things that I do recommend having when night training are a mattress protector and Tide Pods.  Mattress protectors do not cost much and keep the mattress from getting wet, which will help you save money over time.

Tide Pods are convenient and work and smell great!  Tide detergent pod get rid of the urine smell and clean and brighten very well!

Night-time Potty Training

My 4 year old son is fully potty-trained.  We are now working on my 3 year old daughters potty-training.  She began the 3 year old class at preschool in the fall.  She needed to be potty-trained to be in there.  We started sending her to school in her big girl undies with an extra change of clothes, just in case.  There were a few accidents, but little by little they became fewer and far between.  I think that being in the  3 year old class helped with potty-training because they had regular bathroom breaks and she saw other kids her age going potty on the toilet.

We are now halfway through summer and she is wearing her big girl undies all day long.  We still put a diaper or pull-ups on her at night time.  I prefer the diaper because it costs less than a pull-up and she does not get out of her bed to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, so there is no need for her to learn how to pull them up and down like big undies.  She gets enough practice during the day. Most mornings she wakes up with a  dry diaper.

She may be ready to wear underwear overnight, but I don't know if I am ready for that.  We do have a waterproof mattress protector on her mattress, so that helps.  I think I will wait a few more months for her to wear undies at nighttime.  Plus, I need to use up all the diapers that we still have.  Most likely, we will switch her to big girl undies once we are done with our Costco-sized box of diapers.

Potty training success

My 4 1/2 year old son was day-time potty-trained by the time he began preschool (a little before he turned 4 years old.  A few months after he started preschool, we noticed that his pull-ups were dry every morning, so we switched him to underwear at night time too.  Finally!!!  One child down and one to go!  My daughter just turned 3 years old yesterday.  She is mostly day-time potty-trained.  She wears her big girl underwear every day and only has an accident every couple of days.  Usually, she has the most accidents before bed.  I think it is because she is tired and she just doesn't feel like getting up to go to the potty.  She will be starting preschool in the 3 year old class in the fall and she will need to by potty-trained  by then.  At least day-time potty-trained.  I think that getting her into preschool this year really helped since she sees most of the other kids doing it and she wants to be a big girl too.  One thing that really helped us on our potty-training journey was to have our children pick out their big kid undies The were so excited to pick them out and the really wanted to keep them dry so they don't ruin them.  We have the summer to get our daughter potty-trained.  I think we should be OK.

They Know When They Are Wearing Diapers

We have finally potty-trained my son, during the day at least.  We still put a diaper or pull-up on him at night time.  I think we could have potty-trained him sooner if we had figured something pretty simple out.  He knew when he was in diapers.  He knew that he could pee and poop in them!  When we would put underwear on him, he would not have accidents, but when we went out with him or where too tired to deal with potty-training, we would put diapers on him and he would always poo or pee in them because he knew he could.  I finally made the plunge about a month or so ago and decided that he was going to be in underwear all day.  It was pretty scary for me because I was afraid he was going to have an accident and then we would have to go home.  He only had one or two accidents, but I think it helped him realize that he needs to go in the potty instead.  Now that he has been in underwear during the day for over a month, he has not had any accidents and will even go to the bathroom on his own.  I have noticed that most of his pull-ups are still dry in the morning when he wakes up.  Hopefully we will be able to have him in underwear while he is sleeping soon!

Potty-Train In Time For Preschool

My son and daughter were accepted into the preschool we wanted to send them to.  Yay!!!  I am so excited!  My 3 year old son will go 2 mornings a week and my daughter, who will be 2, will go 1 morning a week.  Now we really have to get serious about potty-training.  We have been stuck in the house for the past 2 days due to the blizzard and frozen roads.  Since we have been home, I have only put my son in underwear, except during naps and bedtime.  He has been doing great.  A few times, a peed and poo'd in the hallway in front of the bathroom.  When I asked him why he did that, he answered "because I did".   Oh well! I'll never get a straight answer.  My daughter really likes to dump her poo into the potty after she goes poopy in her diaper.  She really doesn't like wet or dirty diapers.  When I put her on the potty, she usually pees and sometimes poops too!  We have until the Fall to get them potty-trained.   Hopefully we will succeed by then.

Peeing and Pooping on the Floor

Lately, when my son gets mad, he will hide in the hallway or his bedroom, pull his diaper or pull-ups down and pee or poop on the floor when nobody is looking.  Later, we will see that there is pee or poop on the floor and have to clean it up.  I know he knows to go on the potty, so he is doing this  on purpose.  He is just getting a cold too, so I think this is part of it.  He did it twice yesterday, but has not done it today.  It's a good thing we own a wet-vacuum!!!

Pee in Once Upon A Child

I am taking a break potty-training my daughter since she is sick with a cold.  My son has been wearing underwear all weekend and for the beginning of the week.  I put underwear on him again today.  He has a fascination with batteries and flashlights and my husband just gave him a new one yesterday.  He was taking the batteries out and putting them back in again all morning, which distracted him from potty-training.  I sat him on the potty before we left the house and he went pee.  When we got to Once Upon A Child to look for Winter gear, he screamed that he had to go potty.  They would not let us use their potty, so my son peed his pants.  They wouldn't even let me use the changing room to change his pants because they had carpets.  For being a child consignment shop, it wasn't very kid friendly.  )-:  They told me to go 3 stores away to use their potty, so I picked up my screaming kids, wrestled their coats on and carried them in 15 degree weather to the potty 3 stores away.  What an experience!!!

In underwear all weekend!

We had my son in underwear all weekend!  We even had him in his undies all night on Saturday night with no accident!  Yay!!!  I just cancelled my Amazon Mom suscription for his diapers.  What a great feeling!  Now, we just have to make sure we stay on track.

My daughter is still peeing on the potty, but has not pooped on the potty in days.  She is coming down with a cold right now, so we are going to go easy on the potty training right now with her.

I am so excited to have one out of diapers (hopefully)!!!

Elmo helps kids to poop on the potty!

Today, I was reading a book that I got out of the library "Potty Time with Elmo (Little Sounds Book) to my kids.  My kids laugh every time they push the toilet paper roll button.  In the book, Elmo is teaching his doll, Baby David, to go pee and poop on the potty.   Then I thought, maybe that could work for us!  I found an Elmo doll that is as big as my daughter in my house and put a diaper on him.  I told my kids that we had to teach Elmo to go potty and they loved the idea.  We ran to the bathroom and took Elmo's diaper off and sat him down on the potty.  I made pee and poop sounds and then we congratulated Elmo for going potty on the toilet.  My kids that this was a lot of fun and they wanted to show Elmo how they go pee and poop on the potty too.  My 1 1/5 year old daughter sat down, stared at Elmo and pooped on the potty!  Yay!  Elmo did a dance.  Then my 3 year old son got on because he wanted to show Elmo how he goes potty.  He peed on the potty!  No poop, but he had just gone in his diaper not too long before we tried this.  Elmo is sitting in the bathroom right now waiting for the kids to show him how they go potty.  Yay for Elmo!!!

Poop on the floor, but not in the potty

We really didn't potty train much today since we were in and out of the house.  I did sit both of my kids down on the potty and I did get pee from my son, but nothing from my daughter.  When I was getting ready to give my kids a bath, my daughter pooped on the floor in the bathroom.  There is something about water that makes her poop.  Every time we go swimming and sometimes when she is in the bath, she poops.  Maybe I will have to use water to get her to poop on the potty.

Pull ups training pants

My 3 year old son is getting over his virus that caused him to have diarhea.  Instead of putting him in diapers, we thought we would try putting pull ups training pants on him.  He was able to get through the whole morning in one pull up!  Around nap time, he peed in his pull ups and we decided to put a diaper on him for his nap.  He did pretty good with them on.  He was able to pull them down without a problem.  He even went potty without help a few times while using the pull ups!  He would run into the room and yell "I went pee-pee on the potty".  When we went back to check, pee was in the potty.  We will have to try the pull-ups more often.  The only reason I don't use them more often on him is because they are more expensive than diapers, but if it helps him to potty train, then hopefully we will not need to buy diapers any longer.

My 1.5 year old daughter sees big brother going potty and she wants to do it too!  She went pee on the potty once today, but there is still time left in the day.  We have not had any poop on the potty in the past few days.

Taking a break from underwear

We will be taking a break from putting underwear on my son for the next several days.  I called the Dr and she told me that there is a virus that is going around the area that causes diarrhea and vomiting in little ones and it should last 3-5 days.  My son has the diarrhea part.  We had to throw away three pairs of underwear yesterday because of it.  My 1 1/2 year old daughter and 3 year old son are still going pee on the potty, but we have not had any poop on the potty yet today.  We were told to feed my son very bland food while he has the virus.  They recommended the BART diet:  Bananas, Applesauce, Rice and Toast.  They told me to stay away from milk products and citrus fruit and fruit juice and to give him Gatorade or Pedialyte to keep him hydrated.  They also said not to give him any anti-diarrhea medicine because the diarrhea is the body's way of flushing the virus out.

Turkey Day Poop

We had my  1 1/2 year old daughter and 3 year old son sit on the potty a few times yesterday, with a few pees from both of them.  My daughter pooped on the potty, but I still have not gotten my son to poop on the potty yet.  My daughter may be potty trained before my son!  My son does say he has to go potty now, runs to the potty and goes pee by himself sometimes.

Today, we put underwear on my son.  We usually put underwear on him when my husband is home with us since I have extra help.  On workdays, I usually just put diapers and bring them to the potty when I can. My son had a little runny poo and had 3 accidents in his underwear, so we had to throw them out.  Poor Lightening McQueen!  Now he is back in a diaper, but he just told me that he needed to pee and then asked if he had underwear or a diaper on.  I think he was trying to decide if he should pee in his diaper or go potty.  I brought him to the potty and he went pee-pee.   Yay!  He asked for a piece of candy afterwards so I gave him one skittle.  We are using our trick-or-treating candy as our bribe.  Bribing seems to work!

To poop on the potty or to poop in the bathtub?

I did not keep up with my son's potty training as well as yesterday.  I put him in diapers today and he peed in the diapers a few times.  I would ask him if he had to go potty and he would say no or he would sit on the potty and nothing would come out.  After I told him that I would give him a little piece of candy each time, he went pee.  Still no poop in the potty.  Today, we went to the library and used the kids potty.  My son peed and my daughter pooped over there!  I couldn't believe it!  I was so happy!  We went a few other times at home with success, but only after I asked if they needed to go, brought them back to the potty and told them I would give them a treat.

My daughter was so excited to jump in the bathtub when I was filling up the bath, that I didn't get a chance to put her on the potty before she went in.  While my kids were taking a bath, I noticed poop floating around.  This is the second night in a row that my daughter pooped in the tub!  I said "Who pooped in the tub?" and my son noticed it floating towards him.  He had terror on his face as he screamed "Get me out of here" and threw himself out of the tub.  I laughed so hard, I almost had an accident!  It looks like our bathtub is our Number 2 for Number 2's!!!

Potty Training seats

When we first began our potty training journey, we started off with the basic potty training seat that sits on the ground, which you have to empty out every time your child goes potty in it.  My husband decided that it takes up too much room and that it was kind of gross, so I looked into alternatives.  I found the Baby Bjorn toilet trainer.  You put it on your toilet seat and it makes it smaller so your child doesn't fall through.  I didn't need any tools to attach it.  I can pull it off and hang it up when we have company over and then reattach it by just placing it on top of our toilet seat when our kids are ready to use it.  It is easy to clean and easy to use.  We had to get a let step stool to put in front of the toilet so our kids could get on the toilet since it is higher than they could reach on their own.  I love it!  My husband even likes it.  He hasn't tried to get rid of it yet and we have had it for over a year!

How To Potty Train Your Little Dragon

Can you tell I have been watching 'How to Train Your Dragon'  a lot lately?!  My kids just got the movie a few weeks ago and I can practically recite it already!  Well, I was hoping that my son (3 yrs old) or daughter (1.5 yrs old) would poop on the potty today, but it did not happen.  We only sat my daughter on the potty once today and she peed, but no poo.  We put Lightning McQueen underwear on my son today.  Normally he wears diapers, so we weren't sure what was going to happen.  We brought a fresh pair of clothes with us just in case.  He only had one accident the whole day!  Yay!!!  I am so proud of him!  He usually doesn't tell me that he needs to pee until after he has peed in his pants, but today, he told me that he had to pee, went to the bathroom and stood up to pee, just like he sees Daddy doing it, then he pulled his underwear and pants up and smiled at me with the biggest, proudest smile and declared that he went pee-pee in the potty all by himself and he didn't need my help at all.  I was so proud of him!  This is the best potty-training day we have had yet.  Hopefully, we will be able to keep this up tomorrow!  I have a feeling my son is getting close to being potty trained and my daughter will be close behind him.

Welcome to my Blog!!!

As you can tell by the name of the blog "pooping on the potty", by blog is about potty-training.  I am a stay-at-home Mom of two small children.  A 3 year old boy and 1 1/2 year old girl.  I am going through the process of potty-training both of my kids right now.  Some days are better than others.  We have been trying to potty train my son since he was one.  He knows how to pee in the potty, but will only go when we tell him to.  Otherwise, he just goes in his diaper.  He has pooped two or three times in the potty since we started, but I am hoping that this will happen more often.  Especially since I am trying to get him potty-trained before preschool starts next fall.  My 1 1/2 year old daughter sees my son on the potty and she wants to go on there too.  She has peed a couple times and even pooped once on the potty!  I think I may have them potty trained at the same time!!!
